The new generation of the popular truck brought plenty of novelties, and most important is the 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter. Also, very important news is the all new six-cylinder engine that replaced a V8. Also, there are fresh styling, the latest technologies, and an updated color palette.
But, one thing is yet to be changed. The TRD package has been around since 2015 and made the truck very popular for off-road adventures. Fans expected an update, but everything stayed the same when the latest generation of the pickup was introduced. Soon after that, the manufacturer launched a new trim. The 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter is coming out probably as a replacement for the TRD package, or at least the updated version.
Well, the Trailhunter is an off-road concept that should be available for the Tacoma pickup as well. Experts are confident all the body-on-frame SUVs will also use it. For some while, it was a mysterious project, sitting on the official site as a separate member of the truck lineup. Eventually, it turned out to be a new grade for upcoming trucks. The new generation of Tundra already offers it, and next year Tacoma is getting a new version. There are a lot of rumors about the pickup. Trailhunter is not dominating next to the electric truck rumors.
2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter Upgrades
The badge drew a lot of attention. For a while, Toyota kept their fans on alert about any new info. Last year, the SEMA show unveiled its true intentions. The Trailhunter turned out to be the new off-road concept for pickup trucks and it was shown off on Tundra. However, the 2023 YM is not offering this grade yet. That is why enthusiasts believe the 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter will be the premiere edition.
One thing is sure – the package is there to enhance overlanding. We could see skid plates and roof racks on the Trailhunter. Also, the company presented a new suspension system, unique for this version of the Tundra. Plus, the truck is getting a rooftop tent. For now, that is all we saw, although some optional upgrades will also be available. Don’t worry, you will be able to customize the truck and get the overlander for any occasion.
Trailhunter vs TRD Pro
Everything smells like a replacement. Still, the TRD Pro package is still a part of the lineup for the new generation. The fact is – TRD lineup needs updates. The Pro version is the top of the range configuration with equipment for the toughest driving challenges. Anyway, it can get boring after nearly ten years.
Tundra TRD Pro is one of the best trucks for off-road adventures. When it comes to riding, there are no too many upgrades that can make this model better, which makes a revisit a tough job. But, new face, such as the 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter, can refresh the interest and draw new buyers. TRD Pro model is available for Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner and Sequoia, and the Trailhunter concept could overtake all those trucks and SUVs. Experts believe there won’t be major upgrades or downgrades when it comes to driving. Only the new styling and badging are there to refresh the offer.
The 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter will use a standard engine available for the truck. That is a 3.4-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with 389 hp. So, the old V8 is replaced, and it seems like the new model is a substitute for the TRD Pro. We’ll see how changes will affect the popularity of the pickup. Fans already like the new setup. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, another novelty in the powertrain room. Of course, the off-road package includes a special four-wheel drive.
We can also expect an upgraded version, the I Force Max. This one enhances power and torque outputs to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, thanks to the hybrid support. All-wheel drive and a 10-speed gearbox are also there for this package.
2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter Price and Release Date
Now it is clear what the Trailhunter is. The new off-road package was presented late in 2022 and some fans expected it already as the 2023 YM. It didn’t happen and the TRD Pro is still there. The 2024 Toyota Tundra Trailhunter will be a premiere edition and we assume that price will be around $75,000. That is $5,000 more compared to the current TRD Pro. The Capstone stays the most expensive grade with plenty of premium features added.
We’ll see the Trailhunter badge more often in the following years. After the Tundra, Tacoma will also get this package. But, the current focus is on the new generation and electric drivetrain. Furthermore, Toyota might bring back the Stout truck, as the new small pickup. But, it should be an urban delivery vehicle, so we don’t believe it is going to get the Trailhunter package.
