There is a bright future for the Lexus GX. The new luxury SUV will be built on a futuristic platform, which leads to more options. The new nameplate in the lineup is the 2025 Lexus GX 550. The company filed for its registration, but fans still don’t know what will happen with the GX 460. If a 4.6-l V8 engine is dropped, this model will probably be discontinued.
While the future of the current version is under a question mark, there are also many other subjects of fans’ interest. First, they can hear speculations about a hybrid engine. Well, Lexus already added a hybrid configuration to the full-size LX 600 model. Then, what will the new 2025 Lexus GX look like? We can compare it to some other SUVs. However, the unique appearance is the key for the company.
The New Name
Lexus filed for the registration of the GX 550 badge. That is just one of the novelties for the next-gen SUV. The USPTO still needs to give a green light to the new model. However, Lexus is not waiting and do nothing. The 2025 Lexus GX 550 is already under development. Experts believe the new SUV is going to share the platform with Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner. That means some similarities, but a lot of differences.
New Flagship Vehicle
There are a lot of premium Lexus vehicles, but the GX might lead the way with innovations and performance. Expectations are huge. The SUV is already one of the best combinations of luxury and utility, and the 2025 Lexus GX 550 should take everything to the next level. Fresh look, cozy interior full of advanced technologies, and a hybrid unit, are all the things that make a strong impression already. However, until the final product comes out, we can only guess. Also, there are a few more months to add some cool advanced features and systems and make the GX futuristic.
Under the Hood – 2025 Lexus GX Hybrid
An old 4.6-liter V8 is probably in history books. First – it can’t meet efficiency standards. Durability, power and reliability are there, but at the price of high power consumption. Second – the engine is outdated and needs improvements. Engineers would rather build a new unit, than spend time and resources working on something old. And finally – hybrid systems are a safer bet for the future that brings complete electrification.
For now, the GX is not becoming an EV. Before we mention a hybrid SUV, let’s check what is going to happen with the current V8. Instead of it, the company will install a turbocharged V6. They already did it on the larger LX 600. The base version is not a hybrid. We can compare possibilities, but it doesn’t mean the 2025 Lexus GX is getting the same system. As a smaller sibling, it should be downpowered. Engineers are getting there by decreasing power on the current I Force setup, or by switching from a 3.4-l mill to a smaller displacement. Anyhow, the GX 550 is not getting 409 hp and 479 lb-ft in the base form. The output will be somewhere between 330 and 370 hp.
The 2025 Lexus GX hybrid is going to use the I Force Max configuration. The standard system will get electric support to boost power and fuel economy. Again, the performance depends on what engineers pick for the base model. The GX Hybrid will definitely be closer to 400 hp and the gas mileage won’t suffer too much. A mid-size SUV, although belonging to the luxury class, consumes too much fuel rated at 17 mpg. The new engine will make it over 20 mpg for sure, which is a big boost.
2025 Lexus GX Release Date
The launching of the new SUV is very close. We are monitoring the situation with other vehicles that will use the same platform. The truck-based 2025 Lexus GX will follow the release of the Toyota Tacoma. The all-new pickup is already available, and the next two vehicles that are built on the same BoF architecture are 4Runner and GX. As a luxury vehicle, it will take more time to make everything cozier, safer and elegant. You can expect the 2025 YM late in 2024, and the company is going to release more information when we enter the next year.
The company expects a lot from the upcoming 2025 Lexus GX 550. The new look, hybrid engines and advanced technologies will turn it into a flagship SUV. It is not a small thing for the luxury carmaker. But, to fulfill expectations, the vehicle needs to be perfect and a step ahead of the competition. In the mid-size segment, those are Lincoln Aviator, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE. All of these vehicles have a high-end version with an engine that can deliver more than 500 hp.
