America’s most popular premium SUV has been redesigned for 2023 and therefore, no one expects to see bigger changes for the next year. However, the Japanese carmaker has something different in plan. Namely, the recently introduced plug-in hybrid version is about to get updated, according to the latest reports. It looks like the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ is about to get a new version of the powertrain, which could include new battery technology and significantly increased max range.
Other than the new powertrain, things should remain pretty much the same. The current generation is still pretty fresh and there is no reason for updates at the moment. The styling looks good and the same could be said for the interior. On the other hand, novelties in terms of standard and available equipment are always welcome.
With the new powertrain expected, it’s quite possible to see the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of 2024.
2025 Lexus RX 450h+ Powertrain
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ could get updates under the hood. Even though this version has just been presented with the new generation, it is actually a little bit older system, introduced with the RAV4 Prime. It still feels competitive but Toyota has already presented the new generation of hybrid system and the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ is likely to be the first production model to get it.
The main benefit would come from the new battery design. According to Toyota, the new system will be able to ensure over 100 miles of range in the EV mode. We don’t know if the RX will be going to the maximum but in any case, this will be a significant improvement over the current system, which ensures up to 37 miles of range. Besides, the increased range, it’s also possible to see power increase, even though the current system features quite a respectable 304 horsepower.
As for the rest of the lineup, we expect to see no changes, which means there is a choice of two more hybrid powertrains, as well as an entry-level gas-only version powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-four,
2025 Lexus RX 450h+ Design
So, as we’ve just mentioned, the overall design will remain unchanged. Simply put, the current generation is still very fresh and there is really no need for updates at the moment. The styling looks pretty good and, not only that it’s all-new, but many also consider it the best look RX ever had. The lines are a little bit smoother than before, with a little bit more conservative than the previous model and, therefore, less polarizing.
As for the mechanics, the new platform brought notable improvements in terms of handling and overall driving experience, but this is still a crossover that puts focus on comfort, so the ride is rather smooth and relaxed than engaging
Interior
On the inside, the new RX is typically conservative and that’s actually something we like very much. If you compare it to German rivals, it doesn’t look flashy but on the other hand, the selection of materials is pretty nice, while the build quality is excellent. All this is complemented by a well-measured portion of tech features.
Besides quality, the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ will continue to offer a solid amount of space. The company gave up on the stretched, three-row version, so the new model comes only in a variant with two rows of seats. Both are pretty generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. Also, Lexus traditionally makes some of the nicest seats in the class. On the other hand, what’s not so great is the cargo volume, as you get just around 30 cubic feet behind the second row.
Features
As mentioned, novelties in terms of standard and available equipment are always possible and the 2025 Lexus RX 450h+ might come with a few of them as well. Still, if we consider that the current model is already well-equipped, these changes will probably be minimal.
Most things will remain the same, so expect to see base models equipped with a 9.8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, six USB ports, a 12-speaker stereo, voice recognition, Bluetooth, HD Radio, keyless entry and a universal garage door opener. The additions may come from the current list of options. Some of the highlights are a 14-inch touch screen, navigation, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound stereo, wireless device charging and two more USB ports, as well as ambient interior lighting, a moonroof and a panoramic roof
