The new SUV prototype is being tested on the roads, the next-gen GX is confirmed and the GX 550 trademark is registered. Expectations are rising, but the company is not unveiling details yet. But, we already found a few things about the upcoming 2024 Lexus GX 550. Our sources say the vehicle is almost ready for its debut. It replaces the GX 460 after 15 years in the market. The third generation of the luxury SUV was announced on May 11. In the next couple of months, we’ll get more details from Lexus.
There are a few big things about the 2024 Lexus GX 550. It starts the third generation, meaning there are plenty of changes. The most important are the fresh design, updated interior, and the new drivetrain. The last one is probably something we want to see as soon as possible. Instead of a V8, the GX 550 comes with a turbocharged V6. A hybrid is possible as well.
Fans still want to know a lot of things – colors, packages, advanced options… Here is what we know about it.
What Will 2024 Lexus GX 550 Look Like?
There are only two teaser images to tell us the first details about the luxury SUV. Of course, headlights get a fresh shape. The rear end with the Lexus writing is not showing anything important. Also, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 spy photos are almost useless. Under heavy camo, we can’t see what is new. Also, the dimensions remain a mystery. Some experts claim the SUV is going to be slightly larger. The LX 600 gained a few inches, while the fourth-gen RX is still 192.5 inches long. The new GX will stretch 195-198 inches from bumper to bumper.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Interior
We can find some spy photos fans claim to be the new GX. But, there are no close-ups to show the interior. After a few revisits, the SUV is finally getting an all-new cabin. It was way out of date. The 2024 Lexus GX 550 interior remains a three-row layout with seven seats. You can cut the last row on some grades, so this option will be carried over. Lexus will update all the gadgets and add the latest tech features. You can compare it to the LX and RX, premium SUVs that were redesigned in the past two seasons. Now it is time for the GX and be sure that mid-size off-roader will add a few special things. Compared to the RX, the GX rides on the ladder frame, not a unibody architecture. That makes it more durable, but the safety suffers.
Colors and Packages
With a very limited amount of information, it is hard to talk about details. But, every redesign and new generation brings fresh paintjobs. There will be some carry-overs, but fresh colors come along with fresh styling. Some trim levels will have unique paints. Speaking of grades, the question is if the 2024 Lexus GX 550 Black Line comes back. The current edition offered this upgrade, but only to 3,000 fastest buyers. It makes it even more special.
Premium and Luxury are there for the old generation. Some of the possible versions are F Sport and Ultra Luxury. But, the second one is there as the high-end version of the flagship LX 600 SUV. The 2024 Lexus GX 550 F Sport would be interesting to see. If there will be multiple engine options, this version could bring something special.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Specs, Hybrid
The mid-size SUV sits on the ladder frame and the current generation is using a V8 engine. Some would say it is a bit big option for such a vehicle, but this is not the only example. But, the era came to an end. Toyota and Lexus are discontinuing big units and replacing them with smaller, turbocharged plants. The I-Force six-pot mill is now powering big LX. So, there is no reason why would company keep a V8 on a smaller SUV. On the other hand, a 3.4-liter turbo-six delivers too much power. A smaller base plant or decreased outputs might do the job.
Another thing – the 2024 Lexus GX 550 hybrid is also an option. Again, the system from the LX is too much for the mid-size model. On the other hand, the RX now has a potent combination, and if the GX doesn’t bring something new, the same setup could be available for the third generation.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Release Date, Expected Price
For now, the GX has only been teased by the carmaker. No further details are available at this moment. The 2023 YM is out and time is ticking away for the next season. The vehicle is in the final phases of development and the release date is getting closer. The SUV will be out by the end of the year and the price goes up significantly. Expect the base MSRP between $65,000 and $70,000.
