Under the hood of the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is one of the most efficient systems in the market. The powertrain helps the crossover to achieve over 40 mpg. Plus, there is a plug-in hybrid version with more power. Engineers maintain high fuel economy numbers. Still, the Rav4 Prime is significantly more expensive than the base hybrid.
For a long time, Toyota was an absolute leader in the hybrid segment, not only in compact crossover classes. However, when the Rav4 hit 40 mpg, other carmakers started developing their systems. Now, we also have Honda CR-V and Ford Escape above this mark. Plus, there are other models being pretty close.
It’s been a while since the Rav4 introduced big updates, both on the body and in the engine room. It seems the 2024 YM is going to be a carry-over, and the Rav4 is getting some serious upgrades in 2025. That means the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is going to deliver the same numbers.
2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Specs
The main source of power for the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is a 2.5-liter petrol engine. Without electric support, the powertrain cracks 200 hp. When you upgrade the crossover to the hybrid, the total system output is 219 horsepower. More important, the gas mileage gains a lot. With a front-wheel drive setup, the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid makes it 41/38 mpg. An all-wheel drive is a bit thirstier with 38/35 mpg fuel economy. The crossover is not the best vehicle for towing, rated at just 1,750 pounds. You are getting the best performance by using regular gasoline.
Rav4 Prime Plug-In Hybrid
There is also a model with upgraded electric drivetrains. The 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime is a PHEV configuration that increases power and offers some electric driving range. Thanks to the new additions, this system can produce 302 hp. The gas mileage is 38 mpg combined. Have in mind that the PHEV setup comes paired with an all-wheel drive only. The electric range is 42 miles. Improved towing capacity is just a bonus. The Rav4 Prime tows up to 2,500 pounds. Modifications can improve recharging times. Currently, the system needs about 12 hours with domestic outlets. Fast charging times today are 2.5 hours with a 6.6 kW / 240V charger, or 4.5 hours if you are using a 3.3 kW mode.
Mileage and Competition
When the Rav4 introduced a hybrid system, the vehicle had no rivals. There were hybrid crossovers, but the technology Toyota implemented was a few steps ahead. Eventually, other companies evolved and improved their products.
Now, the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid is not the crossover with the highest mpg rating. Ford Escape and Honda CR-V are two models that can do 44 and 42 mpg. Hyundai Tucson produces a bit more power, but it is not in the 40+ mpg club. The PHEV version covers 35 miles. Mitsubishi Outlander also features one of the most efficient systems, with 246 hp, 64 MPGe, and 38 miles of electric range.

Packages
The 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid offers all the cool packages like the base version. There will be at least 7 trim levels available for the upcoming model. The carmaker could introduce a new one to refresh the offer. The base version is LE, but that one and the XLE are not offering some impressive features. So, everyone will recommend going after the SE trim, which is only $2,000 higher. Woodland edition is unique thanks to its off-road equipment. And it is not too much more expensive.
Another model worth money invested in is the XLE Premium. Compared to the standard XLE, this one adds 18-inch wheels, fog lights, a sunroof, a power liftgate and a leather steering wheel. High-end options are XSE and Limited. The first one brings two-tone paints and large 10.5-inch infotainment screen, while the top-of-the-range version uses premium equipment – heated and cooled seats, an advanced sound system, automatic parking and upgraded upholstery.
2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid Pricing
Without big changes, the price of the 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid should stay put. That means you need to pay around $30,000 for the base vehicle. Compared to the standard drivetrain, the hybrid is a $3,000 upgrade. XLE adds $1,500 and the recommended SE is just under $33k. For that money you can also buy Rav4 Hybrid Woodland. The XLE Premium costs $35,000 and the Limited is the most expensive package, priced at $38,500.
The Rav4 Prime and the PHEV system top $40,000. This configuration is available only in two trim levels – SE and XSE, which has a $45,000 price tag on it. Ford Escape PHEV is more affordable, priced at $38,500. Honda CR-V Hybrid costs the same and the Japanese rival is not offering the PHEV configuration. If you want to save some money, go after Hyundai Tucson. But, Toyota Rav4 will cover the $1,000 over time thanks to the better gas mileage and resale value.
