2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is Still the Most Reliable SUV You Can Buy

Land Cruiser is in production for more than 80 years. The legendary vehicle is a perfect craft of luxury and performance. Unfortunately for US buyers, the Japanese company promotes the Lexus LX as the flagship SUV and makes more space for it by removing the LC. The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is not coming back to this market. The luxury SUV will still be available in the rest of the world.

Upcoming models are coming without big changes since the current version is all-new. Not only the look but also the interior suffered a lot of updates. The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser still offers three rows of seats. Finally, the engine room introduced a new powertrain. The I Force is now powering the vehicle. It is more efficient than its predecessor, a 5.7-liter V8. Outside the US, the Land Cruiser is also available with a diesel engine and a few other plants.

The new generation of the luxury SUV debuted last year with a new concept, style, and engine. A hybrid configuration is now under the hood of the big rig to improve the biggest downside – fuel economy. A 3.4-l twin-turbo system can deliver enough power for a smooth ride, so you will hardly notice the difference between the new setup and an old V8. Durable and reliable, but also very thirsty, it had to be replaced. For the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, the I Force engine is tuned to 409 horsepower. That is an upgrade compared to its predecessor. But, fans are not so sure if the turbo-six can be as durable as a V8.

Other Engines

This was the change for all Toyota vehicles in the US with a V8. But, in the rest of the world, the SUV used a lot of other configurations. The J200 was out for 15 years, so we can make a big list of different plants used for the luxury SUV. Nowadays, besides the I Force unit, there are also 4.0-liter V6 and 3.3-liter diesel engines.

A 4.0-liter V6 is another big mill that will be dropped from the US lineup. Only a few vehicles are using it, and from what we know, a turbo-four is jumping in instead of a V6. It still delivers 270 hp, saves a bit of gas compared to the V8, and maintenance costs are cheaper.

A diesel unit improves the mileage. A 3.3-liter displacement still delivers 300 horsepower and massive torque. We see it as the favorite powertrain in most countries. Its pollution records are keeping the oil burner away from the United States and more countries will restrict usage of diesel plants.

No Big Design and Interior Updates

Fans of the LC were waiting for 15 years for the company to update the legendary SUV. When both exterior styling and interior layout were too old to be competitive, Toyota decided to launch a new generation. Well, all their big vehicles are new – Tundra truck and Lexus LX SUV.

The vehicle is using the TNGA GA-F platform. The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is lighter than its predecessor but keeps a high level of durability and rigidity. Designers and engineers saved almost 450 pounds. With a lower center of gravity and revisited suspension tuning, the new Land Cruiser brings a totally different driving experience as well. Dimensions and approach/departure angles are the same as for the previous model.

The exterior remains the same – there is no need to touch anything after only two years in the market. The new look still draws attention. Sales increase in Japan is probably the best indicator. Toyota sold more than 35,000 units last year, after the redesign. The last “big” year was in 2016 when 6,000 Land Cruisers were sold.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser No US Comeback

This is a call for the foreseeable future. We can’t guarantee what happens after the 2025 season. But, Toyota made some room for Lexus LX and they will test the market with the all-new luxury SUV. Basically, that is the same vehicle as the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, but behind a different badge. You are getting the same performance, off-road capability and luxurious interior.

The LC is the legendary nameplate. It is in production for more than 80 years. So, if things go unexpected for the Lexus LX 600, the Land Cruiser will be ready to jump in and bring back old fans.

Anyway, there are a few reasons for discontinuation. First – the company doesn’t need competition within the family. Both the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX are full-size luxury SUVs. The sales were slow for both models and now they can expect a boost in interest for the remaining model. Meanwhile, Land Cruiser still covers many markets and survives thanks to its legendary durability. Militaries and militant groups love to use it and Hilux trucks.
