2025 Lexus GX 550: Rugged and Luxurious

Lexus’ mid-size off-roader has been long overdue for a redesign and after years of waiting, the all-new model is finally here. The 2025 Lexus GX 550 is coming completely redesigned, with substantial changes in almost every aspect, starting from the new platform, new powertrain, new styling, new interior and many more. The new GX is a completely new vehicle and it promises to be way better than the old model, especially when it comes to the part that refers to the on-road driving manners.

Still, despite the significant changes, the new generation hasn’t lost any of its capabilities. The off-road performance is still at an impressive level, while you may count on all other utility tasks to be done, including respectable towing capacity. The 2025 Lexus GX 550 is a complete package and we can’t wait to see it on sale. Currently, the company is taking preorders.

2025 Lexus GX 550 Design

As mentioned, the 2025 Lexus GX 550 comes as an all-new model. The previous generation has been around for way too long, so it doesn’t surprise that the changes seem pretty radical. First of all, there is the matter of platform. Just like the rest of Toyota’s body-on-frame vehicles, the new GX is also based on the new TNGA platform, which brings benefits in various aspects, especially when it comes to ride quality. The new model is stiffer, with better torsional rigidity. Combined with a new suspension setup, that has a highly positive impact on handling, so the new model should offer better ride quality on the road.

Of course, off-road performance remains at a super high level, with all kinds of off-road features. The new model comes standard with adaptive suspension, crawl control, hill-descent assist, skid plates, all-terrain tires, locking center and rear differentials, and many more goodies.

As for the styling, it is also completely new and radically improved compared to the previous generation. The modern front end, adapted to the brand’s latest design language, seems perfectly fitted to the vehicle’s body, very rugged shape. What we particularly like is that despite the aggressive layout, the new model somehow also looks classic, which means it should age well. That’s particularly important if we consider the very long production cycle of the previous generation.

Interior

As for the interior design, it is also all-new. We always like the look of the previous generation’s cabin for it’s classic design approach, mixed with excellent build quality. The new model brings the same mix, but this time with a way modern dashboard design, characterized by modern, clean lines and nicer materials. Furthermore, the dashboard is highlighted by a couple of massive screens, including a 14.0-inch infotainment unit, as well as other tech features.

As for the seating configurations, the company decided to go in the same way as with the previous model, meaning that the standard version accommodates five passengers in two rows of seats. The third row increases seating capacity to 7 by adding the third row, but comes as an option.

As mentioned, all models are equipped very well, and come with tech goodies like a 14-inch infotainment screen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, six USB ports, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto etc. Furthermore, you can opt for goodies like wireless charging, a premium Mark Levinson audio system, a cooled storage bin, a head-up display and many other tech and convenience features. Leather upholstery is standard across the range, and there will be a choice of different color schemes.

2025 Lexus GX 550 Engine

Big changes are coming under the hood as well. As expected, the new 2025 Lexus GX 550 drops the old V8 from the offer and turns to something that’s not just more efficient, but also more capable. Of course, we are talking about Toyota’s new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which is tuned to 349 horsepower and quite impressive 479 pound-feet of torque – the same version of the V6 you can find in the base Tundra.

With nearly 50 horses extra and a monumental torque boost of nearly 150 pound-feet, it’s obvious that the exhaust note is the only thing we’ll be missing from the old V8. The new turbo V6 will provide way better performance but that’s not all. We also expect it to be way more fuel efficient compared to the old V6, which was able to return no more than 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

Also new is a 10-speed automatic transmission, while the most capable versions will be able to tow up to 8.000 pounds.
